Pounding the pavement for our rights

Like many people of my ilk, I wasn’t sure a celebration was in order today. But the radio station where I am a programmer, KSQD, put out a call for parade marchers. So for the first time I went to The World’s Shortest Parade as a participant rather than a spectator.

The “float” behind ours was comprised of three women who had decided that it was back to the grassroots. Inspired Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s calls to action, they decided to march on the theme of “Roe Your Vote.”

As much as I love my radio station, I defected and joined them. Soon another woman with a sign came in. All along the parade route, we were cheered. (Heckled once, but that’s par for the course.) After the parade, women kept coming up to us, telling us how much it meant for them that we were there… and how they wish they’d been with us.

We all have to come out of our comfy closets and talk about this. Listen to my show on Abortion Stigma. And act.

  1. Thank You!!! Voting the wrong way, and not voting at all got us into this mess via Trump’s SCOTUS degradation. So voting – for those who value freedom and human rights is imperative. Keep Dobbs in mnd when next you vote!

    1. Thanks for your support, Judy! If you listen to my stigma podcast, you’ll hear a great argument for all of us speaking up—not just at the ballot box. We need to remind each other that abortion is an important part of healthcare. Period.
