When the Covid pandemic brought everything to a grinding halt, moms got busier than ever. Yvette Brooks, mayor of tiny Capitola, California, was no exception. She had her political job (which pays $700 per month), her full-time job at the County Office of Education, and her job as Mom. Although she has a supportive husband, he was out installing Internet for all the people suddenly working and learning at home. In this interview, Yvette talks about being responsible for decision-making during a pandemic, joining with neighbors so that they could all continue with their work while suddenly taking on homeschooling, and joining the Great Resignation as she realized that she had to leave her other family—her co-workers—behind.
